Bos Wilmar Interational Ltd Martua Sitorus baru saja mengakuisisi perusahaan tambang batu bara di Australia yakni Whitehaven Coal Ltd. Wilmar yang merupakan perusahaan sawit terbesar di dunia ini membeli 9,53 juta lembar saham dari perusahaan Australia tersebut.

Seperti diberitakan Reuters, yang dikutip Senin (24/6/2013), Sitorus dan beberapa investor lainnya kini memegang 5,826% saham di Whitehaven. Saham tersebut diperoleh setelah dia membelinya dari pemegang saham sebelumnya, Nathan Tinkler.

Semua perusahaan pembeli saham berlokasi di tempat yang sama di Singapura. Kelompok perusahaan tersebut menghabiskan sekitar 28,21 juta dolar Australia untuk membelinya. 

Adapun perusahaan lainnya yang ikutan membeli saham Whitehaven antara lain Golden Parklane Limited, Bolney Enterprises Ltd dan Burlingham International Ltd. Farallon Capital Management juga mengambil 9,9 persen saham Whitehaven.

Sitorus, yang bekerja sebagai pimpinan operasi di Wilmar sedang mengurus proses pengunduran dirinya untuk menjadi wakil pimpinan eksekutif di perusahaan yang sama pada 1 Juli mendatang. Setelah pengumuman tersebut, Sitorus yang juga merupakan pendiri Wilmar diketahui mundur dari posisinya agar punya lebih banyak waktu untuk fokus pada bisnis keluarganya.

Martua merupakan Chief Operating Officer perusahaan kelapa sawit terbesar Wilmar International. Sitorus yang berdagang udang waktu muda mendirikan Wilmar dengan keponakan orang terkaya di Malaysia, Kuok Khoon Hong.

Martua berada di peringkat 15 orang terkaya se-Indonesia dengan harta kekayaan yang mencapai US$ 1,75 miliar atau Rp 16,62 triliun di Forbes tahun 2012.
